This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming. For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

Chiara Lubich- The Founder of Run for Unity the Focolare Movement

Chiara Lubich was born as Silvia Lubich in Trento. Her father lost his job because of the socialistic ideas that he held during Italy's period of Fascism.[citation needed] Consequently, the Lubichs lived for years in extreme poverty. To pay for her university studies in philosophy, Lubich tutored other students in Venice and during the 1940s began teaching at an elementary school in Trento.
Her discovery of "God is


Love" (cf. 1 John 4:16), led her, on December 7, 1943, alone in a small chapel, to promise herself to God forever and to change her name to Chiara, in honour of the Saint from Assisi. This date is considered the beginning of the Focolare movement.
These Focolare (small communities of lay volunteers) seek to contribute to peace and to achieve the evangelical unity of all people in every social environment. The goal became a world living in unity, and its spirituality has helped dismantle centuries-old prejudices. Today its members and adherents are Catholic, Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Bahá'í, as well as thousands of people who profess no particular religion.

In her life the day of May 13, 1944 remains the night of one of the most violent bombings of Trento. Lubich's house was among the many buildings destroyed. She decided to stay in Trento to help the new lives being born. She encountered a woman who had lost her senses through the suffering caused by the death of her four children.[citation needed] It was among the poor of Trento that that which Lubich often calls the "divine adventure" began.

In the 1960s young people started protesting in large numbers throughout much of the world. From 1966 Lubich proposed to the youth to live according to the radical message of the Gospel as an answer to the profound desire for change claimed by young people everywhere. The Gen Movement was thus born (New Generation) which animates the wider "Young People for a United World".

In the year 1966 Chiara Lubich co-founded the school Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom College, Fontem in Cameroon with the assistance of the contemporaneous native chief of Fontem, Fon Fontem Defang. She visited the school in May of 2000. From the very beginning there had been younger teenagers and children who made the spirituality of unity their own. The third generation of the Movement, those who animate the vaster "Youth for Unity" movement, was born in 1970.


Christian, the first lay person, and the first woman to be invited to communicate her spiritual experience to a group of 800 Buddhist monks and nuns in Thailand (January 1997), to 3,000 Black Muslims in the Mosque of Harlem in New York City (May 1997), and to the Jewish community in Buenos Aires (April 1998).




Death

She died in Rocca di Papa in her native Italy, aged 88, on March 14, 2008.

Run For Unity

It was may 10, 2008 me and some of my friends decided to join the run for unity from people's park to almendras gym.

There were just 8 of us 4 youth and 4 kids. We end up baby sitting kids. hehe. I really had a great time running together with many people from around the city. We met new friends during our stay there, it started from 7am to 12nn. When we arrived at almendras gym they fed us with "lugaw", the "lugaw ni mayor".

After the first edition that saw the participation of over 100,000 teenagers in 340 cities of 89 nations, teenagers of many cultures, races and religions will run united once again in prominent and significant locations around the planet in order to symbolically extend a rainbow of fraternity over the world.

In Rome, 2000 teenagers, with representations from 5 continents, will transmit their event via Internet and satellite and will be linked up live with the unfolding of events around the world.

As part of the transmission from Rome, the teenagers are also organising a worldwide Expo on fraternity showcasing concrete projects of the "Let's Colour the City" initiative which is promoted by "Youth for Unity" in various countries around the world.

The young people from the Pacific island of Fiji will kick off the event at 4pm in their time zone.
At 5pm, by means of an internet link, they will pass the baton on to the next time zone.
Over the course of the next 24 hours, the baton will pass through locations of every latitude and in each location personalities from the world of sport, culture, as well as civic and religious leaders will participate.

The sports activities will take place in locations symbolic of peace, or near areas of conflict and war, or in places of strong tension. They will run on the equator, in great capital cities.
Wherever they run their objective is to witness to their commitment to construct unity and peace.

Run4unity 2008 will also represent a worldwide Expo of fraternity by means of which hundreds of "Let's Colour the City" projects will be showcased. This initiative, launched by the Young People for Unity in 2005, aims at colouring with love those "grey corners" of our cities: retirement homes, orphanages, immigrant communities, public areas that need to be cleaned up, shanty town areas, etc. All of this is done in agreement with the appropriate authorities, and all of these projects are linked together through a website (http://www.teens4unity.net).
The teenagers who promote and get involved in these projects are protagonists of an active citizenship and promoters of a future of peace and unity among peoples.

The internet and satellite transmission from Rome of Run4unity 2008 will give the possibility of following the baton as it passes through all of the areas where the teenagers, with their artistic activities, games and testimonies of life, will give witness to the conviction that the encounter of cultures and religions not only is possible, but is already a reality in many places throughout the world.

Run4unity 2008 will conclude with a choreography employing the symbol of light, an expression of the love which can help brighten the small and greater nights of individual people and the world itself.

The Youth for Unity are teenagers for the Focolare Movement. They belong to many peoples, cultures and religions, and there are currently 150,000 of them present in 182 countries. Their objective is to live to construct a more united world, spreading a culture of communion and sharing among peoples, peace and fraternity. In order to involve as many young people as possible in this project, they commit themselves to bring unity everywhere, overcoming divisions in families, between generations, in schools and in whatever environment they frequent. The also undertake various activities at local or global level such as fundraising, sports activities, concerts, ecological actions, forums and peace marches.

Drinking heated bottle of water in car can cause cancer!

This was how Sheryl Crow got breast cancer. She was on the Ellen show and said this same exact thing. This has been identified as the most common cause of the high levels in breast cancer, especially in Australia ..

A Woman whose mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The Doctor told her: women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.

The doctor said that the heat and the plastic of the bottle have certain chemicals that can lead to breast cancer. So please be careful and do not drink bottled water that has been left in a car, and, pass this on to all the women in your life.

This information is the kind we need to know and be aware and just might save us!!!! The heat causes toxins from the plastic to leak into the water and they have found these toxins in breast tissue. Use a stainless steel Canteen or a glass bottle when you can.

When i found out about this article, it alarmed me because since we were kids we always kept a mineral water in the car for later on if some of us got thirsty we would drink it even though its already been heated by the temperature in the car. I immediately printed out the article and post it in the fridge. The next morning my family had stop with the bottle of water instead they had take the water jug.
